Jungle Walking Tours
Join a guided walking tour through our wildlife reserve. Arena Alta features several miles of trails that wind through the jungle. You'll have a great chance of seeing capuchin, howler and squirrel monkeys, as well as caymans, birds, jungle plants and massive fig trees. Tours with our local expert Amon last 2.5 hours and cost $20/person.
Kayak Trips
Embark on a guided kayak tour of the Rio Sabalo and Rio Coto, with local guides Andy and Anita. This is a 3 hour adventure for up to 8 people, which will take you from Arena Alta to the mouth of the Golfo Dulce. $50/person and a snack is provided. Chance to see and experience a pristine jungle and river environment, with monkeys, crocodiles, variety of birds and more.
Horseback Riding
We offer guided horseback riding tours.
1) Explore the jungle trails of the reserve $40/person. 2) Explore the jungle trails of the reserve + sunset cruise on the beach. Both tours can accommodate up to 6 people. Sunset cruise on the beach finishes at Sol y Mar Restaurant where you can enjoy good food and a cold drink. Tour lasts 2.5 hours and is guided by Kevin.
Fishing
Arena Alta is located among some of the best sportfishing in the world. Surfcast the beach for grande roosterfish, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, and the occasional cubera snapper or snook. Hop on a local panga boat, or head offshore on a center console for marlin, yellowfin tuna, sailfish and more.
Birding
You never know what you may see walking through Arena Alta. In fact, Scarlet Macaws and more than 350 different species of birds inhabit nearby Osa Peninsula.
Surfing
There is no shortage of surfing opportunities along the beaches surrounding Arena Alta. The famous surfing town Pavones (home to one of the world's longest left breaking waves) is about an hour drive south. The beach immediately in front of Arena Alta can also produce good surfing conditions.
Exploration
There are many excursion opportunities available in the area surrounding Arena Alta. Taking a boat to the Osa Wildlife Refuge, whale & dolphin watching, spending a day at the waterfalls, and snorkeling coral reefs in the Golfo Dulce are some of our favorites.
Yoga
Yoga classes are offered during the week in town, held in the mornings in beautiful studios overlooking the ocean. All levels are encouraged.
Cuisine
There are several restaurants and bars in nearby Zancudo. There are also local bakers who deliver breads, pizzas and more. Fresh shrimp and lobster can be purchased from local fishermen.
